Stanislaus County probation officer arrested after allegedly peeping on woman at Target fitting room
RIVERBANK – A man who works as a probation officer has been arrested after an alleged invasion of privacy incident at a Target in Riverbank.
The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said, back on Nov. 12, a 21-year-old woman reported that she was shopping at the store and had gone into the fitting room to try on some clothes. She then looked up and noticed there was a cell phone above the door.
Quickly putting her clothes back on, the woman then opened the door and said she encountered a man she didn't know standing there. He first tried to go into a different fitting room, but the woman said she confronted him and demanded he delete the video.
Instead, the woman said the unknown man ran out. Still, surveillance video captured the man's vehicle and license plate number – all keys to identifying 29-year-old Adrain Machuca as the suspect, the sheriff's office said.
It's unclear exactly when in the investigation he was named, but the sheriff's office said they confirmed Machuca's identity with the Stanislaus County Probation Department. The department fully cooperated with the investigation and, on Tuesday, Machuca was arrested while at work.
"This in no way is reflective of the positive work that the men and women of the Stanislaus County Probation Department do every day to ensure our community remains safe," the probation department said in a statement after Machuca's arrest.
Machuca was booked on charges of possession of matters depicting sexual conduct and invasion of privacy, but he has since posted his $51,000 bail.
Detectives noted that they are still investigating Machuca and it's unknown, at this point in the case, if there are any other alleged victims.
