KEY WEST — A man is dead and two others were hospitalized following a boat crash near Key Largo on Saturday morning.

Just after 10:25 a.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was called out to a boating accident involving multiple people near Card Sound, just northwest of North Carson Road and Pumpkin Key. Multiple MDFR fire boats, two Air Rescue helicopters, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and U.S. Coast Guard crews responded.

MDFR Air Rescue rescued two people and took them to Jackson South Trauma Center. USCG divers were also deployed, and a third person was pulled out of the water. The third person, who was later identified as 21-year-old Eytan M. Genoune of Boynton Beach, died from his injuries, the FWC said.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 34-foot Nor-Tech vessel with three occupants was traveling south when a "sudden turn" threw Genoune and the other two overboard, the FWC said. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.

This is the second boating accident in the Florida Keys that has happened in a matter of days after a Hialeah woman was killed and five others were ejected from a boat involved in a powerboat race on Thursday afternoon.
