MIAMI - Miami-Dade police are investigating a shooting that injured three people, including two teenagers, Thursday night in Northwest Miami-Dade.

It happened shortly after 7 p.m. near NW 22nd Ave. 65th St.

According to detectives, the victims — ages 15, 17, and 22 — were standing outside of a vacant lot when an unknown individual approached them on foot and opened fire.

The victims all sustained gunshot wounds to their lower extremities. They were transported to Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.

The shooter fled the scene on foot and authorities have yet to release a description of the suspect.

Miami-Dade Police said they believe the shooting was targeted but they are unsure about the relationship between the shooter and the victims.

"We're definitely glad that we're not going through another situation where a young person lost their life. This could have been much worse," said Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin. "We're happy that these young people are being treated and we're doing everything we can to piece together what happened here this evening."

Investigators are continuing to work the case, but no further details were immediately available.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477 or (305) 471-TIPS.
