Red Flag Warning In Effect For High Fire Danger In North, East Bay Hills

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Weather officials Saturday afternoon issued a warning that conditions are developing in the North and East Bay hills that could cause rapid wildfire growth should a fire start.

The red flag warning went into effect at 6 p.m. Saturday evening and lasts until 10 a.m. Sunday, National Weather Service officials said.

A wind advisory is in effect which means that winds of at least 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Drivers should use extra caution.

Strong northeast winds in the North and East Bay hills will start Saturday evening and last through Sunday morning with gusts of 50 mph possible, NWS officials said.

The area will also see low humidity and the strong winds combined with dry fuels may cause extreme fire behavior, according to NWS officials.
