Flash bangs, gas deployed after man barricades himself in Fair Oaks home
FAIR OAKS – A man who was barricaded inside a Sacramento County home on Sunday evening is now in custody, law enforcement officers said.
The incident was happening along the 6000 block of Sun Pearl Court, near Orangevale.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded around 5 p.m. It appears the incident started as a family dispute as deputies discovered a woman with minor injuries at the scene.
Deputies were able to get the woman and a child to come out of the home. The suspect stayed inside and refused to come out, however.
Neighbors were stunned by the situation.
"This is a nice community and it's shocking this is happening," said Darnell Dancer.
Negotiators were called to the scene. There was also some concern that the man was armed, deputies said, with the suspect reportedly having a criminal history with guns.
A "steel wall on wheels," the Rook, was deployed during the negotiations.
"Just a few minutes ago, our SED team deployed flash bangs and gas into the home," said Sgt. Amar Gandhi with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
Some of the surrounding homes were evacuated while others were told to shelter in place.
The suspect was taken into custody around 8:30 p.m.
Deputies say they believe the flash bangs encouraged the suspect to surrender peacefully.
