PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Temperatures are still in the 90s for the Pittsburgh area, and some counties are under an excessive heat warning because the heat index could reach 110 degrees.

Alert: First Alert Weather Day through Saturday due to heat, and there's a storm chance for Tuesday as well

Aware: Monday was the hottest day in Pittsburgh since June 22, 2022

We will continue to have a heat advisory in place through Friday evening at least. That means possible heat index values between 100-104 degrees.

Butler, Beaver, Allegheny, Washington, Westmoreland and Fayette counties have been upgraded to an excessive heat warning through Friday, meaning there are multiple days with heat index values of 100-110 degrees. There will also be little relief overnight, with overnight lows above 70 degrees.

The tri-state area was in the mid-80s as of noon, and the heat isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Expect another hot, steamy and stormy day with highs hitting the mid-90s again.

Monday's high temperature hit 94 degrees in Pittsburgh, which was one degree shy of tying the record of 95 set back in 1994. Pittsburgh will head toward 95 degrees Tuesday, and the record stands at 97 degrees.

The big ridge of high pressure responsible for this heat is centered off to our east, so that will allow some potential storms to once again fire up Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Again, hail, heavy downpours (so much humidity!) and damaging wind are the main threats. We are in a marginal, or level one out of five, severe weather risk today.

The hottest days of the week will likely be Friday and Saturday before the heat finally starts to break a bit Sunday and even more on Monday.
