BETHEL PARK, Pa. (KDKA) -- Twenty-five passengers were evacuated from a Pittsburgh Regional Transit light rail car on Tuesday morning due to a fire from overhead power lines.

The power lines fell onto the Silver Line car while traveling between Lytle Station and Highland Avenue around 9 a.m. A spokesperson for Pittsburgh Regional Transit said the fire went out on its own.

No injuries were reported from the passengers on board the vehicle.

PRT dispatched shuttle buses for riders between Library Station and Washington Junction Station as service was suspended between those stops while emergency crews assessed the damage.

Several emergency officials rushed to the scene, according to an area resident who saw the incident.

"It was pretty quick. I would say within five, 10 minutes, there was Port Authority here, Port Authority police, Bethel Park police, fire department," said Bethel Park resident Matt Rauch.

The Silver Line was closed for about four hours from mid-morning to afternoon before regular operations resumed.
