Police Arrest Man They Say Shot And Robbed A SEPTA Passenger

By Paul Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police have arrested the suspect wanted for robbing and shooting a SEPTA Broad Street line passenger last Sunday.

According to authorities, 18-year-old Shawn Walker is charged with robbery, aggravated assault and related charges. They say he will be tried as an adult.

Lt. George McClay says Walker stalked his victim, a 53-year-old man who got off at the Broad and Glenwood station.

"As he approached him on the steps, he robbed him," McClay said. "Our complainant tried to run. He fired one shot, striking him in the hip. He followed him down on the platform and took all his money and threatened to shoot. Luckily two SEPTA officers came by, heard the gunshots and chased the male."

McClay says Walker got away from the cops, but not surveillance cameras.

The robbery victim, whose name has not been released, is in critical condition at Temple Hospital.

Walker is also a suspect in a robbery at a convenience store that occurred just two days before the subway shooting.
