City of Philadelphia to open some of its pools this week 02:01

"What are we going to do with our kids?"

With some pools not opening this summer, Tyti Norris said it will make it hard on families in the city.

"If we are in a neighborhood and we don't have a car and our pool is closed and it's 100-degree weather, what are we going to do with our kids?" Tyti Norris said.

But others like Phyeim Fleming are looking forward to the pools that are opening in Philly this summer.

Fleming spent part of his Father's Day pushing his 4-year-old daughter, Kay Lani, on the swings at Shepard Rec Center on Haverford Avenue but said she's eager to get into the pool just across the way, which is scheduled to open Friday.

"I'm waiting for this pool to open up so we can go swimming. She's already been asking for it," Fleming said.

Shawn Brown, who was at Shepard Rec Center, was there with his kids and said he's lucky they have this resource near his home.

"They enjoy themselves, everyone out to play, everyone looking out for each other," Brown said.

The city also operates more than 90 splash pads and spray grounds.
