Bill Wine's Winter Movies Preview

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With Oscar season underway, our attention during the upcoming weeks will be focused on 2012's best movies.  But there will be plenty of new attractions opening at multiplexes this winter as well.

So, look for these mainstream titles to open on theatre screens during the first few months of 2013:

JANUARY

Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as the title-character siblings in the fantasy thriller, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Dustin Hoffman makes his directorial debut on a comedy-drama set in a retirement community for opera musicians that features Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly, and Tom Courtenay in Quartet.

Jason-Statham-ParkerJason Statham (right) stars as the title character, a double-crossed thief, opposite Jennifer Lopez in the action thriller, Parker.

Stars galore turn up -– including Richard Gere, Halle Berry, Emma Stone, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Uma Thurman, and Gerard Butler -– in a series of interconnected shorts in the comedy, Movie 43.

FEBRUARY

Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, and John Malkovich co-star in the romantic zombie comedy, Warm Bodies.

Al Pacino, Alan Arkin, and Christopher Walken co-star as aging con men in the crime comedy, Stand Up Guys.

Sylvester Stallone stars as a hit man out for revenge in the action thriller, Bullet to the Head.

Channing Tatum, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jude Law, and Rooney Mara (right) co-star in the crime thriller, Side Effects.

Jason Bateman stars opposite Melissa McCarthy in the crime comedy, Identity Thief.

Charlie Sheen, Bill Murray, and Jason Schwartzman team up in the romantic-despair comedy, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swann III.

Bruce Willis returns as John McClane in the fifth "Die Hard" action thriller, A Good Day to Die Hard.

Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, James Gandolfini, and Jessica Alba lead the voice cast in the animated adventure comedy, Escape from Planet Earth.

Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, and Jeremy Irons are part of the ensemble cast of the supernatural romantic drama, Beautiful Creatures.

Dwayne Johnson plays an undercover informant trying to infiltrate a drug cartel in the action thriller, Snitch.

Keri Russell and Josh Hamilton fight to protect their children in the science fiction horror thriller, Dark Skies.

Writer-director Tyler Perry examines a complicated life in the marital drama, Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.

MARCH

Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, and Ewan McGregor co-star in the modern-day fairy tale, Jack the Giant Slayer.

Ashley Bell returns as the star of the horror sequel, The Last Exorcism, Part II.

Mila Kunis, James Franco, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams star in what is essentially a "Wizard of Oz" prequel, Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Tina Fey and Paul Rudd (right) co-star in the admittedly romantic comedy set in academia, Admission.

Julianne Moore and Chloe Grace Moretz play mother and daughter in the horror-thriller remake, Carrie.

Halle Berry tries to save Abigail Breslin in the 911 thriller, The Call.

Steve Carell and Jim Carrey play dueling magicians in the stage-magic comedy, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone.

Gerard Butler plays a Secret Service agent trying to prevent a terrorist attack on the White House in Olympus Has Fallen.

Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, and Ryan Reynolds provide the voices of members of a prehistoric family in the animated comedy adventure, The Croods.

James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, and Selena Gomez co-star in the college-vacation comedy, Spring Breakers.

Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger, and William Hurt co-star in the aliens-taking-over-the-Earth science-fiction thriller, The Host.

Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, and Bruce Willis co-star in the action-adventure sci-fi thriller, G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

APRIL

FBI agent Sandra Bullock teams up with Boston cop Melissa McCarthy to take down a drug lord in the action comedy, The Heat.

Robert Redford, Shia LaBeouf, and Julie Christie co-star in the suspense thriller, The Company You Keep.

Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan headline the spoof sequel, Scary Movie 5.

Chadwick Boseman plays Jackie Robinson and Harrison Ford is Branch Rickey in the racially themed biographical baseball drama, 42.

Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman co-star in the graphic novel-inspired science-fiction thriller, Oblivion.

Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams co-star in the romantic drama, To the Wonder.

Jason Bateman stars in the social-media thriller, Disconnect.

And Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton play a divorced couple forced to pretend they're married at their son's nuptials in The Big Wedding.
