Artistic Dance Director To Take Final Bow

NEW YORK (CBS 2) – Award-winning choreographer Judith Jamison will make her final performance on Sunday night at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.

Jamison became the first African American woman to direct a major modern dance company when Alvin Ailey hand picked Jamison to head up the dance troupe in 1989.

Since then, she's been honored by presidents, won the Kennedy Center Honor, and was voted one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people.

Jamsion was born on May 10, 1943 in Philadelphia.
