Major weather shift could make March the snowiest month of the season in Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS — WCCO's NEXT Weather team is following a major weather pattern change that could bring a couple rounds of significant snow to Minnesota between Thursday and early next week.
It's possible this multi-day storm could be one of the 20 heaviest in the Twin Cities on record when all is said and done on Tuesday.
Thursday, Friday snowstorm
The first system dropped between 2-5 inches of snow between late Thursday evening and Friday morning across Minnesota, especially in the central part of the state, including the Twin Cities.

The second system could bring much more snow than the first
Current models indicate that central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, could see a foot or more of accumulation between Sunday and Monday.
Could March be the snowiest month of the "winter" season in the metro?
Meteorological spring indeed began on March 1 and the spring equinox on Tuesday, but Minnesota's wintry season continues (sometimes well into April and even May).
So far, February has been the snowiest month of an abnormally warm winter in the Twin Cities, with a total of 7 inches recorded.
March has had just a trace amount of snow, but that's expected to change drastically with these incoming systems.
"March 2024 could end up being the snowiest month of this winter, based on the pattern shift that's developing for the end of the month," Augustyniak said.
The entire state has an above-average chance of precipitation between March 24 and March 28.
