3 people, including 1 child, hospitalized from early morning crash in Miami after unlicensed driver runs red light
MIAMI — Three people, including a child, were hospitalized following an early Saturday morning crash in Miami after an unlicensed driver ran through a red light.
Osman Edgardo Flores Gonzalez, 46, was arrested and charged with four counts of driving without a license and causing death or serious injury.
Around 4:39 a.m., City of Miami Police responded to reports of a crash at NW 47th Avenue and 7th Street. Shortly after, City of Miami Fire Rescue arrived at the scene. Traffic in the area was shut down during this time.
According to police, the driver of the victim's vehicle — a blue Chevrolet Spark — was traveling southbound on NW 47th Avenue and approaching NW 7th Street. The north and southbound traffic signal had a steady green light.
Meanwhile, the other driver — who was later identified as Gonzalez — was driving a blue 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 and traveling westbound on NW 7th Street and approaching NW 47th Avenue. At the time, the east and westbound traffic had a steady red light.
According to police, Gonzalez was speeding and failed to stop at the red light, colliding with the Chevy. According to the arrest affidavit, the crash was "so violent" that the victim's car spun and slid 100 feet away from the point of collision before coming to a stop at the southwest corner of the intersection.
A witness told police that he went to check on Osman for injuries, the arrest affidavit stated.
Three people — including one child — were transported to the Ryder Trauma Center. The driver of one of the vehicles was transported in critical condition.
Meanwhile, a woman involved in the crash was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition, according to Miami Fire. There was no additional information regarding the child's condition.
A records check later confirmed that Osman did not own a driver's license at the time of the crash. He was transported to TGK.
