Chicago Department of Public Health announces clinics for new COVID vaccine

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Chicago Department of Public Health on Thursday announced its schedule of vaccination clinics for the new fall 2024 COVID-19 vaccine.

The city noted that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends flu and COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 6 months or older, and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, vaccine for infants, seniors 60 or older, and those who are pregnant.

Anyone who has not had a COVID-19 vaccination n two months or more should get the new updated vaccine right away, the city said.

Both COVID and flu vaccines are available at commercial pharmacies, and people with private health insurance or Medicaid or Medicare coverage are urged to visit their pharmacy or doctor's office for the updated COVID-19 vaccine. Private insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare should cover the shot as long as an in-network provider is used, the city said.

Vaccine providers are listed at www.vaccines.gov in English, or www.vacunas.gov in Spanish.

Those without health insurance may receive no-cost vaccines from one of three city Department of Public Health standing immunization clinics, or one of dozens of department-sponsored pop-up clinics. The permanent clinics are the Greater Lawn Immunization Clinic at 4150 W. 55th St. (open 8 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday), the Uptown Clinic at 845 W. Wilson Ave. on the second floor (open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and the Pilsen Family Health Center Lower West Clinic at 1713 S. Ashland Ave. (open Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.).

Walk-ins are welcome at all clinics, but registration is strongly encouraged, the city said.

The City Colleges of Chicago is also hosting family COVID and flu vaccination clinics. Registration details are available at the CDPH Vaccine Clinics Calendar. Insurance is not required:

  • Kennedy-King College, 6301 S. Halsted St., Saturday, Oct. 12, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. 
  • Arturo Velasquez Institute, 2800 S. Western Ave., Saturday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Wilbur Wright College, 4300 N. Narragansett Ave., Saturday, Oct. 26, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Richard J. Daley College, 7500 S. Pulaski Rd., Saturday, Nov. 2, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Truman College, 1145 W. Wilson Ave., Saturday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Olive-Harvey College, 10001 S. Woodlawn Ave., Saturday, Nov. 16, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Van Buren St., Saturday, Nov. 23, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

COVID and flu vaccination clinics are also available on the 11th floor of City Hall, at 121 N. LaSalle St. Those going to these clinics are asked to bring their insurance cards if they have insurance, but no one will be turned away. The CDPH Vaccine Clinics Calendar, again, has registration details. 

The City Hall clinics are at the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, Oct. 24, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Thursday, Nov. 14, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 4, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
