Harris Teeter to reopen Locust Point location following 'pest control and sanitation procedures'
BALTIMORE -- The Harris Teeter in Locust Point will reopen on Thursday after being temporarily closed following the discovery of a pest issue, according to a statement from Danna Robinson, the director of Corporate Affairs.
Baltimore City Councilman Eric Costello had said in a social media post that he expected the store to reopen on Saturday morning. But Robinson said on Tuesday that the closure had been extended.
The closure was extended. Now, the store is expected to open at 7 a.m., Robinson said.
Last week, a posted sign urged customers to visit the store's other Baltimore location in Canton, according to the Baltimore Banner.
Harris Teeter staff said the store had contacted a pest control company and the Baltimore City Health Department. Additionally, it has put new policies in place to address the pest issue.
"We have contacted both our professional pest control company and the Baltimore City Health Department to partner with us on sanitation and control measures. Additionally, we have implemented strict sanitation protocols, initiated a thorough cleaning and will maintain ongoing inspections. With this expansive mitigation programming, we anticipate reopening the store soon," Robinson said in an earlier statement.
Harris Teeter employees were compensated for their scheduled hours during the closure, according to store staff.
Additionally, Harris Teeter will be donating $1,000 to the Maryland Food Bank, to replace the funds the food bank would have earned during the current Backpack Boosters Round Up campaign, according to Robinson.
