Texas primary runoff election results 2024

House Speaker Dade Phelan survives brutal primary challenge

NORTH TEXAS - The results are in for the Texas primary runoff election.

Texans decided on Tuesday which Democrats and Republicans they want to see in the November ballot after candidates in several key congressional, legislative and local races failed to receive more than 50% of the vote in the March 5 primary election.

The 3 big Texas runoff races

  • The 12th Congressional District runoff for the Republican primary nomination between Craig Goldman and John O'Shea. Goldman defeated O'Shea with 63% of the vote.
  • Democrats in Dallas County turned out for incumbent Sheriff Marian Brown. Brown faced former Sheriff Lupe Valdez, defeating her with 68% of the vote.
  • In southeast Texas, incumbent state representative and Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan has been fighting for his political life with David Covey. With 100% of District 21 reporting, according to the Secretary of State, Phelan won with 51% or 12,813 votes to 49%, or 12,447 votes.
