Woman dead after being shot near deli in Philadelphia's Logan neighborhood, police say
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An investigation is underway after a woman was killed after being shot on North Broad Street in Philadelphia's Logan neighborhood Saturday evening.
Philly Police Inspector D F Pace said around 4:42 p.m. on May 11, officers received a 911 call of a person shot on the 4800 block of North Broad Street. After arriving at the scene, they found a 33-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her midsection.
"It's unclear if she was shot in the back and it exited the front or vice versa," he said.
The woman was rushed by medics to Albert Einstein Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m. Police said the woman was walking southbound on Broad Street at the time of the shooting and was shot while outside on the sidewalk. After being shot, they said she ran into a deli around the area and collapsed on the ground inside.
"It's unclear whether the shooter was in a vehicle that was driving by, possibly parked, or possibly a gunman on foot," Pace said.
Based on surveillance video, police said there were several people in the area where the woman was shot. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this time.
"So it's unclear if she was the target or possibly someone else in that area. Another question that needs to be answered through investigation," Pace said.
Officials said the deli is secured for investigation and the crime scene spans the entire 4800 block.
No arrests have been made and no weapons have been recovered.
