One in custody after fatal shooting on SEPTA's Walnut-Locust Station
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man is in custody after a fatal shooting on SEPTA's Walnut-Locust Station on the Broad Street Line platform Saturday afternoon, police say.
Police removed the caution tape that was set up at one of the entrances to the Walnut-Locust Station. They have been on the scene here for hours, investigating what led to the shooting.
SEPTA says it happened just before 3 p.m. on the Northbound subway platform on the Broad Street Line. They say two men got into an altercation before one of them was shot multiple times in his left thigh.
The victim later died at Jefferson Hospital.
Transit police arrested the suspect and found a weapon. Police have not said whether the two men knew each other.
Some people in Center City told CBS News Philadelphia the crime makes the subway feel unsafe.
"You feel like everyone on the train has a gun these days," Brian Fagan said.
"I asked the transit policemen did we have another shooting today? And he said 'Yes ma'am,'" Patti Lalor said. "And I'm like you know what I don't know if I'm coming into the city anymore. I just don't feel safe."
We are working to learn more about the circumstances of the shooting.
Because of the police activity, subway service was shut down for a time but now it's back up and running for the most part.
SEPTA says delays could be expected.
